I've been working on a shampoo bar formula for awhile now. This is what I came up with. It's made with castor oil, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, cocoa butter, coconut oil, with a decoction of chamomile flowers, lemongrass and bergamot essential oil :) The rinse is the same chamomile decoction with apple cider vinegar and lemongrass essential oil.
So........I washed my hair the first time with that bar and.......yikes! It felt like I had glue in my hair!!!!! WTF! Apparently my hair had a build up of oils and waxes that are in all over the counter shampoos. I was using Avalon Organics and yep they are in there. 12 bucks a bottle too :( Can hair go thru a detox?
Nightmare! I stuck with it and finally got a comb thru my hair. Oddly my hair looked great. The next go round. I washed my hair and it felt much better but.......I dumped some conditioner on it. It seemed fine but the very next wash........glue. WHAT. THE. HELL. So back to the drawing board. I searched and searched for a conditioner/rinse formula, everything involved putting food in my hair and 30 minutes. That's not where I wanted to go. SO I went with the vinegar rinse. It was okay but it could have been better. I added the chamomile and essential oil and BAM! That was the ticket :)
Now for the full disclosure on my hair. Once my hair is dry I'll try to get a picture of it. My hair is about an inch above my waist. It's natural (no color) and wavy. I don't have a blow dryer or curling iron and I use no styling products. It now dries faster and stays cleaner longer. And for that 12 bucks I have shampoo for a year and enough rinse to sink a battleship :)
It's a process switching over and even once I get my soap shop up and running I won't have the shampoo bar in there. I think it would be to hard to explain the long drawn out mess (it's a huge hot mess with glue feeling hair) you have to go thru to have great results. We live in a instant gratification world. Most people won't get it :(
Here is the end of my ponytail :) The left side caught too much light......But you get the idea.
