What did your dream life look like when you envisioned it?

I’m sitting here in light of an oil lamp that was a gift from a dear sister on the eve of the winter solstice. It’s just starting to get dark out and I’ve been daydreaming looking out the dining room window for the last hour or so. I see snow, lots of snow, pine trees, moss covered rocks in the distance, llamas sheltering under a tree a few hundred yards from the house. Inside the house it’s warm, kind of dry (except where the roof is leaking over the windows as the ice and snow melt LOL) the dog and cats,,,all five of them are in various states of bliss warming in front of the pellet stove.

When I envisioned this whole thing it looked remarkably similar to the reality. The house would be a rustic ramshackle sort of thing… which it is. I would do laundry by hand….. which I do. I would weave and create ….. I do some of that… but in my dreams I had a lot more time for that …. In reality not so much! The water situation and the bathroom actually are fairly close to the dream mostly because I’m fairly realistic. But in my dreams the floors were level and I had more closet space…. Maybe when I find the time I’ll find a closet or perhaps if I find a closet it may contain some time….the floor is a whole different matter.

Water for Virgos

After days and days of working on the shack…painting…. hanging curtains….shifting heavy boxes…furniture not to mention lugging the 58lb or so jugs of water hot showers just weren’t cutting it for the sore aching muscles. I wanted to soak in the tub…a bath! I’m a Virgo. We like to bathe…to soak…it’s where we plot the take over of the universe.  But no running water and no hot water heater = no volume of water for a bath. So………….. after some discussion with my partner in crime he came up with this…
First, just where the heck is that rubber ducky? Okay here we go…… first fill the tub with snow then fill the four largest pots like the water bath canner and pressure canner pot with water (a precious commodity around here). Bring the water to a boil. Add to the tub of snow (this tub is fiberglass by the way) which had melted down to about an inch or so of water. Add several more shovels full of snow I like the water at about 102 or 103 …more snow. Perfect! Almost. Add one chunk of Himalayan pink salt, 13 drops of lavender oil and 7 drops of lemon oil, light the sunflower candles and place the quartz crystal that was charged at the Summer Solstice near by……. Disappear from the world into the hot water for a good hour. Re-emerge with my “bring it on” attitude fully recharged.  I may need to do this at every full moon. I guess I need to get a few rain barrels for the snow free days.
(I can’t believe how long the water stays hot in a fiberglass tub!)

Who knew???

Who knew?
The desk has a view!
A really awesome view :)

Putting things in order

It's been really cold out so the order of the day(s) has getting this place in order. Our tiny mobile home was neglected for many many years. Most notably the water damage the went untended to.... mind you the roof was replaced and is in perfect condition but they ignored the damage to the ceiling and the walls ...and the floor.... My best guess is that it has been this way since the early 1980's. So the end result is that the old girl is a bit warped, crumbly, water stained and crooked. I am making headway though! The bedroom is 90% in order. The bathroom is done with the exception of the light fixtures.... I'm not "allowed" to touch the electrical! The living room is about 80% done.. there are still mirror tiles on the wall that must GO!!! I have been focusing on the office/storage room and the second and totally unnecessary "bathroom" I think it should be storage. It's really hard to fit a 1400 square foot house with a garage and 250 square foot storage room into 800 square feet. I need that bathroom for storage. But first a thing or two about that bathroom. It's purple. I don't like purple walls. Also just a bit of advice if you do paint a room purple. Use painters tape. The purple was bad enough but purple slopped over on to everything is just gross. Here is the bathroom in question:

And here it is now in cottage white!

And yes that light fixture is still dangling there :) Remember... I'm not allowed to touch the electrical. Onward there is a room that needs organizing.
If you don't hear from me I'll be underneath all this stuff!

Still here!

Well well here I am Saturday night and still no Internet! Hopefully the third time’s the charm! Supposedly on Monday, they need some different type of something or other to lock on to the satellite from where we are. Gods you would think we are on the dark side of the Moon! I can just hear them now….. We couldn’t find you on Google maps or mapquest! That excuse is wearing thin! Right now we are driving 50 miles one way every 4 or 5 days or so for “free” wifi. We have to in order to pay bills and do banking, he has unemployment crap to deal with and I have a business to run.
On a brighter note the living room and bedroom are somewhat put together! YAY!!! The bathroom and kitchen not so much LOL It’s always a bit of a challenge doing repairs/minor remodeling while you are living in it. But the books are in the bookcase, the TV is on the wall and you can get to the old wicker sofa and chairs to sit on them ☺ Oops…. Yep… time warp! The wicker furniture is over 25 years old and it’s what we are using in our new place! The only thing we were able to (barely) fit from the old place was the bedroom furniture. It actually felt good to let go. I keep saying we have too much stuff. We left all of the heavy wood and leather at the house for the boys to use… it will work better for them. I am still pairing down as we go and it is starting to click. I’m looking at our stuff with new eyes and using it all in different ways.
